Movie Mandala – Aurora

Sleeping Beauty

Hello everyone! I return with a new Movie Mandala blog post! As I’ve mentioned before, I’ll be focusing on just the Disney princesses for a little bit so that I can get the mandalas to my mother who is making them into a mandala blanket. She and I spent some time together over the weekend, and we decided that after we finish the princess mandala blanket we were going to make a Disney villains mandala blanket. How cool is that?! This week’s mandala is themed to the colors of Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty.

Princess Aurora

Although grow up my favorite Disney movie was Beauty and the Beast, there was a time when the film Sleeping Beauty just pulled me in. And I couldn’t really figure out why. I liked the characters, the story, the art and design, the classic music, but it wasn’t that that kept me popping in my VHS again and again. And it didn’t occur to me until I was hanging out with mom and having fun going over our joint craft projects that I realized what it was that appealed to me so much about that movie. It is one of my mother’s favorite Disney films, and when I was little she and I used to sit and watch it together. It wasn’t the movie itself that drew me in, although it was very good; it was that I had a positive shared experience with my mom. We would go around quoting lines by the three good fairies, singing ‘Once Upon a Dream’, and playing the soundtrack to the film or the original ballet by Tchaikovsky. It was awesome.

Pattern and Palette

If you’d like to make your own Aurora mandala, I’ll include a link to the pattern below and the color palette I used to select my yarns.

The mandala pattern is from A Creative Being.

Below is the list of yarns I used for this specific Aurora mandala; you can, of course, select your own colors to whatever fits your mandala best. My mother’s favorite version of the princess’s dress is the pink one, so I made the pink version for the mandala blanket; mine was the messed up, tie-dye looking pink and blue dress the Flora and Merryweather made on accident while fighting about which color it should be. I’ll include the suggested yarn-list for the blue gown too.

Pink Gown:

  1. Lion Brand Pound of Love in Pastel Pink
  2. Red Heart Super Saver in Light Pink
  3. Red Heart Super Saver in Light Raspberry
  4. Red Heart Super Saver in White
  5. Big Twist Yarns Premium in Premium Turmeric

Blue Gown:

  1. Red Heart Super Saver in Light Blue
  2. Red Heart Super Saver in Light Periwinkle
  3. Red Heart Super Saver in Blue Suede
  4. Red Heart Super Saver in White
  5. Big Twist Yarns Premium in Premium Turmeric
